The
majority of ranches in southern New Mexico are a mixture of Federal, State
and private land. The Federal Land lease is an inheritable right and
ownership must be transferred from owner to owner. We have seen this
permit nearly double in value in the last ten years still making New
Mexico one of the best economical land investment operations in the
nation. Together with the ideal climate, and low operational costs,
New Mexico is a viable choice when considering a purchase of a new ranch.
Most of our ranches have a
large depreciable base that can be used to your advantage over a certain
number of years.
Federal land lease fees for
the year of 2007 are $1.35 aum. An animal unit month consists of one cow
and calf up to six months old or one horse, or five sheep. The fee is
set \by the US Congress using the last year’s livestock market data to
calculate the current years amount. The fee for 2006 was $1.56 aum.
